Is there a control that is locking out for some safety or other reason that needs to be reset? There are many gas boiler controls that will "RESET" by cycling off the power to the control. Does this sound like your problem? When did the problem start? Does turning the power off and back on get the burner to light? What is the model number of the boiler or perhaps the burner control?

Does your gas valve use a standing pilot? (constant pilot flame burning ignition)
Is there an ignition control that lights the pilot each time the burner lights?

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

If the gray box is "the board" then you must have something wired incorrectly. Those Honeywell Aquastats should last for over 20 years in most heaters. even longer...

Can you tale a picture of what you re calling "the board" with the cover off so we can see the wires inside?

This has no control board, it has a bunch of safeties and operating controls wired together point to point.

    1. You should get someone to clean this and test the safeties, though a gas boiler arguably doesn't need annual service like an oil burner, it still needs to be cleaned and tested from time to time and this is over due.

    2. What thermostat is controlling this? Does it stay on if you jumper the thermostat connection, usually T-T?

DO NOT OPERATE THE BOILER AND CALL A COMPETENT PROFESSIONAL IF THAT IS HAPPENING. The safeties are almost certainly doing their job and you have spill or rollout both of which could kill you.

I hope it's now off at the emergency switch and you have help coming to find out what's wrong.

Those switches aren't called "safety switches" out of whimsy.

That's the "roll-out" safety. If this thing is going bad, there is something else VERY wrong. You need to shut it down and call a pro NOW. Where are you located- we might know someone........
