Knob won’t turn to “On” Position

Hello so we just bought this new part from Robertshaw  and we installed and now it goes to pilot it lights but we can’t get the knob to turn to the on position? It’s brand new this above pic is the old part

    Do you have to push it down in order to rotate it there?

    Edit: hmm, the manual says you should only have to depress it to rotate it to "OFF" from the "PILOT" position...but give it a try anyway
