Smell coming from steam heat pipe

Hello,

I live in a small 6 unit apartment building in Manhattan that heats the building with floor to ceiling steam pipes. There are 4 in my apartment but only the one in the bedroom has a riser vent on it. For the past several weeks there has been a sickly sweet smell coming from that pipe and it’s slowly driving me crazy. My landlord is very uninterested in resolving the situation so any suggestions or troubleshooting would be welcome. He may act if I can bring him a problem and a potential solution. Happy to provide more details as needed. Thank you all!

You can try venting the vent , Gorton vent and surgical hose can work . You need to pick your battles living with others , hope this helps .....
