Venting plug?

Hey guys
just wanted to see what some of you do to plug the hole you use when you do a combustion analysis on cpvc venting. I’ve seen the foil tape. I’ve seen the high temp silicon.
If you are doing an analysis regularly, is there something you can put in the hole that you can take out and out back when your done?

Thread it and put a stainless steel plug in it.

I am going to take a wild guess here and say that is a category IV vent. That’s a condensing positive pressure vent. It must be sealed so that flue gas doesn’t leak into the boiler room. Especially if the boiler room is inside your home.

I like the threaded plug idea. Add a high temp sealant

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

A 1/4 or 3/8 NPT thread with a PVC or stainless plug are a common way to seal that. Some red RTV silicone for extra insurance. You need to tap the hole first, you can't just force a NPT fitting into the hole.
Look up the hole size required for the tap size you decide on.

If you had drilled a smaller hole you could probably just use a 3/8" ss or nylon bolt with some tape or dope.(obviously tap the hole)

System 636 is listed in Canada. I'm not familiar with what they allow. In the US, there is a battle going on regarding a listing for Sch40 PVC. Regardless of the listing, mfrs such as Charlotte Pipe have stated don't use their products for combustion venting. Fernco says don't use their flexible pvc couplings but sells them to mfs of power vented water heaters. If you drill and tap the pipe you can insert either a nylon, pvc, or ss plug.

It is possible that Fernco is running a different plastic formula when then sell their fittings to boiler manufacturers.

Screw a machine screw in the hole.
You don't even need to take a threading tap to the plastic hole. The machine screw will do it.

From the look of the picture I don’t think they make a zap screw that large.
