Gas dryer

Not sure if this is where to post, but it does run on gas. Haha. My dryer has been intermittently heating. I took the bottom panel off to look at the combustion sequence. It seems like the igniter is glowing, it will attempt to fire, but nothing happens. The igniter will try again repeatedly (assuming it’s on a timing sequence, but still no light. The previous time it did light, so maybe intermittent at best. Could it be the gas valve coils? It’s an Amana LGD20AW. Thank you.

Yes, it could be the gas valve coils. We have an old Amana gas dryer that had the same symptoms a few years ago. I replaced the solenoid coils, and that fixed it.

No experience with gas dryers, but my oven does the same thing from time to time, slow to light & not coming up to temp. The igniter glows like it's supposed to, but I guess the resistance doesn't drop enough to let the valve open. Try unplugging the igniter & plugging it back in. That usually gets me enough time to get a new one ordered.

In the condos I work for, I service their Kenmore or Whirlpool gas dryers. On a Kenmore or Whirlpool dryer. This would be a symptom of the gas valve coils failing. Usually changing the coils on the gas valve solves the problem..

Probably not a bad idea to have a spare igniter. Try that first and if it doesn't work, change the gas valve. And as Ratio says, make sure the wiring's tight.
