Got a free boiler tune up courtesy of national Grid Long Island NY. Only problem according to technician, the CO in flue gases was too high. He made some adjustments of air intake manifold on boiler and CO came down but was not within acceptable level. Does this mean boiler is nearing end of usable life? What causes this and what can be done? Running a hydronic heating system with two zones using Dunkirk PVWB-4D boiler.

I would call a more seasoned tech out for a tune up, which may cost you some money. The tech was wise to adjust the air, but the unit may require a slightly more complete service, which perhaps the free tune up was not really designed for. When was the last time you had someone clean the burner and heat exchanger?0

CO in the flu gas. Below 50ppm recommended below 100 allowed. Did he leave a service report?0

Most gas burners will have a CO spike when they light off, but then it will drop rapidly. Was this guy just measuring the spike? All Steamed Up, Inc.
