Power outage: Beckett Genisys 7505 burner - should I hard reset?

PS: This situation has been resolved, see my comment below but briefly I did a hard reset and it appears to be fixed. Thanks everyone!

I don't know a lot about oil furnaces, but we had a power outage this past evening (with power coming on and off many times and also with low power at times, i.e., lights were dim). Our oil furnace doesn't appear to be heating any more. The air is blowing cold and constantly running (even though the fan is set to auto). I turned off the power at the breaker for 30 seconds and turned it back on but no change. I opened the cover and I saw the red reset light is on solid (see image). I read on one page that I could press this red light button for 15 seconds, wait for the pump prime light to come on, and then release the button to fix this problem.

But I also read on another pages that I should only do this if the furnace is off completely, and not if it is blowing air.

I would normally call NOCO but it is Thanksgiving so please help and let me know if I can do the 15 second press of the red light button safely or if I should wait for NOCO for Friday morning. While it'd be nice to have heat for the whole home, we do have electric heaters that can work while we sequester in one room, it's inconvenient but if the above step is risky we can wait.

If the answer is I can do it, should I reset while the fan is running or shut it off? I can turn off the entire system via the thermostat.

Thanks a lot!

Yes. but only once. not once a day, not once an hour, not once in the morning and once in the aftewrnoon and once in the evening. ONCE and only ONCE

The electronics in that control may have been compromised with the electrical event you described. it's like a computer inside there. Also some other protections may have saved the control from failure. So if you do the hard reset one time, and you get the burner to operate but it does not fire, then call a Professional for help.

If you reset and the burner fires, then you should be good top go.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

The fan can be running when you reset.

Do not put the control in pump prime mode! Which you can accidentally do.
If it runs and doesn’t fire it will pump oil into the chamber for 3 minutes.
One, 1 second press and release. If it fires up and stays running, that’s ok. Although I’d still like to see someone check the safety.
If it doesn’t fire up, or fires up and shuts down, please don’t press it again, and call for service.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

Thank you all for your responses! I appreciate it. So I had to do a hard reset since the light was on solid, and per YouTube videos on this, I pressed the red button for 15 seconds until the pump prime light turned orange (indicating the system hard reset) and then let go. The moment I did this, I heard the furnace turn on and the flame light turned green brightly and the pump prime light became green dimly. It then started blowing hot air and appears to be working fine. I did this only once.

So crossed fingers it's all good. I'm supposed to be on the NOCO comfort plan and I plan to call ASAP and schedule my service anyway so it'll all get checked out soon.

    Thanks again and happy thanksgiving!
