Odd radiator valve

I have never seen a radiator valve like this before. My hunch is that it's a balancing/bypass type valve that you can order with modern panel radiators but I'm not sure. It's hot water heat.

That is very cool and unique. In the last 38 years in the heating business, I don't think I've ever seen one of those. Hot water or steam?

It's hot water. I've been doing HVAC and boilers for 28 years and I've never seen one.

Is this perhaps one of those ingenious contraptions that had a probe on one of those lines which injected water at the far end of the radiator, and removed the water in the usual way at the near end? Have to take it out to be sure.

It sure looks like it! This one appears to be designed so as to use a standard radiator valve and return elbow, rather than the Honeywell "Unique" type which is all one unit.

This one has got me too. I think it's time for me to start posting the oddball stuff that I have come across.

Yup, specifically Minneapolis, St Paul, and surrounding suburbs. I've been a lurker for awhile but I was watching one of Dan Holohan's You Tube videos and decided to finally create an account and become active.

No thank you! I did steam boilers as part of my apprenticeship 25 years ago but hadn't worked on many since then, most of Minneapolis has been converted to hot water heat but every now and then one will poke its head up. I was recently in the historic F Scott Fitzgerald house in St Paul which has 2 pipe steam and realized I needed to refresh myself quickly as there is still a considerable amount of steam heat yet in St Paul and your books and videos have been amazing getting me back up speed
