Steam Radiator

Greetings. Have not posted in a while as my system is running great since Joe S gave it a makeover in 2013. My system is a two pipe Trane. I have one radiator removed for repair. Cold weather has rolled in and I want to fire up the unit. The supply valve is shut but the return is open. Radiator located on second floor.

Will turning on the system with a return pipe open cause a problem? Thank you in advance. TR

Generally speaking, not really -- though it isn't the best idea in the world. In theory, there should be nothing but air in the return. In theory. Again in theory, there shouldn't be any pressure either, so I'd probably tape a bit of plastic sheet over the opening.
