All the things @Jamie Hall stated, check the easy and obvious first. Another more illusive issue that can cause problems (but much more rare) is environmental electrical interference from a some other electrical device.
Also with some equipment the L1 and L2 have to be the same (connected through the building wiring) at all the devices. Since the communication uses them or just one of them.
