Old school paste-up page layout, they don't do it like that anymore!

Were the other 6 homes coal-fired? Or were they fighting against NG with FUD?

Found it in the Daily News - November 1961. It's also in other papers a week before/after. Please don't yell at me for not blacking out the pricing at Cowboy Al's (some of you probably still have the 'free ball point pen')

Oil was much cheaper compared to NG and other fuels then. Most medium duty trucks and some semis were still gasoline. Not as much demand for Diesel.
Pre OPEC, and low transportation costs to ship Oil to the East Coast. Also, NG was not as available on the East Coast as it is today. The other six? Maybe three were electric resistance, and three were coal?

I could go for some of that 12.5 cents per foot 1/2" copper!

Thanks for the reprint.  That was almost 9 yrs ago when I first read that. Syracuse, heh? Lake Skaneateles (pronounced Skinny-Atlas) supplies Syracuse with drinking water.  I wonder if he was a Navy man, Dan?

For those of you that have never seen Levittown Long Island 🏝,  it is a very pretty suburb with lots of trees and and curvy streets with Nice names.  They planned it out very nicely, not like the Grid development they did in the 5 Boros with Cold  numbered streets.  Its easy to get lost in Levittown, but pleasant.

Dan, would that song happen to be

As a young lad, I would convert a lot of these Radiant systems to baseboard heat. My father would always remind me to take the tee out on the return side of the boiler. I didn’t realize back then the tee had a bushing in it to restrict the flow and force it back to the supply side of the system. This little bushing was the key to reducing the temperature of the supply side of the Radiant going out to the floor. Such a simple idea was the most important device. Who knew….. keep it simple stupid!!

That was the Jal Fitting: 3/4 X 1/8. Supply water temp at 180 sent 140 to the floor. An elegant solution. Thanks.

Yes!  If I never went to that Dead Men Seminar at The Plainview Holiday Inn in 1996, I would not have sat front and center at the Table with R.S. English, went to work for this 3rd Generation Long Island Plumbing & Heating Icon, got to work in many Levitt Homes.  I was a 5 Boros Union  plumber up to that point.  I remember when Uncle Richard bought me An Ultrasound machine with ear phones for pinpointing the radiant slab leaks that we specialized in. It was very accurate and we didn't have to feed A cat !  I love Levitt houses...so cozy, warm, and had character...They all had huge, odd shaped yards.. I guess because the blocks were not sqaure grids, but winding roads.   Mad Dog 🐕
