Almost looks like that stud could have been eliminated?

the size hole you need to fit the hub of 1-1/2” pvc makes that stud unless. Hopefully it is not a bearing wall 🫢

G.C.s and Archtects kill me.  They worry about losing 2" in a Proper Plumbing Wet Wall, but don't like when you "destroy" their framing!  All wet walls should be 2" x 6" minimum.  Mad Dog 🐕
    That they should be.

But let's be honest. It's 2023.  All exterior walls should be 2x6 as well especially where it's cold in the winter or very hot in the summer.

Some places do have this requirement but it seems like an awful lot do not.

At very least it should have a reinforcement bracket screwed around the hole:

    Not really a valid test.

    Hey Chris—

whether your 1-1/2” drain is ok depends on if the installer is dead or not. Can you research that and get back to us so we can know what’s acceptable? Thanks

Pretty sure anyone soldering pipe in the 40s-50s is probably deceased at this point.

Not a plumber and don't look at the MA plumbing code except for the gas section (just a gasfitter) but our condo built in the 80s has 1 1/2 to the kitchen sink, bath tub and washing machine stand pipe.

But then again they did everything cheap here.

except for the time my GF pugged the garbage disposal and the clog was downstream of the trap inside the wall there have been no issues.

But I am a water runner.

The tub on the second floor used to drain a little slow. What I do is close the drain take a shower and let the tub fill some and then open the drain to give it a good flush. works fine now. Probably not much pitch between the second floor floor joists

    Ed,
I have pulled so, so, so much hair out of lavs and tub drains. I hate that, it is so, so, so filthy. But, the water drains down so much better. They have these plastic hook that you can stick down the drain, but sometimes I had to pull the stopper lever out of tub drains to get a good clean.

There was actually a brief movement to try 2-1/2" waste lines for low flush toilets. The smaller diameter carrying a deeper water to keep the solids afloat.

There is a trade tech out in Calgary, plumber and instructor Fred Bretzke has piped with glass for waste and vent piping demos.
They play around with different size piping and fitting combinations to see how wet vents, double Y and different code requirements actually work in real time.
