Outdoor coil leak - LG inverter

Hi All—

been chasing a small leak on an LG inverter system that is only a year old. I isolated the indoor and outdoor units to pressure test and found the leak outside — problem is I can’t find any info as to what the heck this piece is. Take a look— it is a brass plug with a hole that is filled with some silver material. The leak is occurring at the top where the silver plug protrudes (orange circle in picture) Nothing is connected to this… any thoughts? Can I just replace this with a plug?

    Fusible plug.
    Required by code.
In case of fire the soft solder melts and releases the refrigerant before it explodes.

    Order a new one.

Awesome… thank you so much… hard to find a part when I don’t know what the heck it’s called!

what is the model of the outdoor unit?

If it were me I would be contacting tech support as well, since this is all likely under warranty if its only installed for a year

Searching the internet a bit it seems there is a known bad batch of these from last year. (2022)

Just got off the phone with LG…. Gave me case # and part # to hopefully get one out soon… considering the part is $180, it better be covered 🙏🏻
