"These engines are prone to oil gelling. Another name for the issue was "engine sludge".[1] There was a class action lawsuit due to this problem.[2] It is very important to the life of these engines that oil changes are done on a regular basis."

Even "regular" oil changes didn't stop this entirely. My brother's Camry lasted a bit more than 90K before needing an engine with 3000 mi oil changes at the Toyota dealer.

Some are good, some are bad - same with any brand.

@hothothot  do you have a history with any of the contractors? Who installed or services  your current boiler? Are you satisfied with the past performance of the boiler and company?

. I still feel the best thing to tell clients when you are installing condensing boilers is that they are 15-20 yrs devices. Not the 30 to 70 yr boilers they were use to with the old cast irons. Give them a realistic expectation and they won't be disappointed. Their will be repairs, blowers every 6-10 yrs, every 2-4 yrs flame rod\igniters. Control boards 10 yrs + or -, sometimes life of boiler. Just my .02 worth after the last 20 + yrs of servicing and installing the condensing boiler market and another 21 yrs before that with cast irons. Peace all and Happy 4th Tim

Do you think that new CI boilers will also result in more maintenance costs, parts replacement, and a shorter lifespan?

Seems like everything today comes with multiple control boards, screens, too much complexity

If in fact the castings are thinner and the size of the sections that could shorten the life. Best water quality and conditioners can help keep the castings happy  inside

Electronics, microprocessors based controls, vent dampers, fan motors, circulators, zone valves are the wear components
Reducing on off cycling by properly sizing the boiler and components extends their life
