steam boiler size

replacing a weil mclain 256 input BTU steam boiler 12 cast iron radiators in the building can I use a 187BTU steam boiler?

    building well insulated and new everything, old unit from1956 customer wants to know. I can replace will a 200BTU unit but calculation charts seem vague

    You have to measure the EDR of the existing radiation in the building then compare that to the "Net Sq. Ft. of steam" value on the boiler spec/plate.

    The existing boiler size is meaningless. The BTUs can be ignored. The number of radiators is by itself meaningless.

    Match EDR to sq. ft. of steam and be one of the 1% of HVAC contractors who does it right.
