Correct cage for Hoffman No.8 trap

I see your dilemma.
Of the three cage #s listed, one of them (#3495) is for the 1/2" Hoffman #8 with Sarco cover. It appears you don't have that, so it appears to be a safe bet to scratch that one.
The other two (#2168 & #3494) are for integral seat and removable seat respectively.
Of the two, placing the odds, I'd bet on what you have is an integral seat #8.All Steamed Up, Inc.

Thanks so much @Gordo. I assume that means the 2168 is the one I should be using, or should I open it to check?
Also, thank you for your wealth of knowledge you offer on YouTube.
I also have one of those 1-1/2" machined caps with a slot for skimming that I have been meaning to send you but haven't yet.
If you don't already have one, just PM me your address or PO and I'll send it to you.
As always, thanks for your help.1 -
I thank you.
Yes, opening the trap to check would be the be best way to make sure.
(once the weather warms up a bit!)
I've used either 1-15/16" impact sockets or 2"on that cover due to variances of either the sockets, the covers, or both.
I don't know exactly when Hoffman went to removable seats on their #8.All Steamed Up, Inc.

@Double D : Yes, that Hoffman #8 you have is indeed the older integral seat type.
A B&J #2168 cage unit and re-using the old cap should be just the ticket.
Thanks again for the skim fitting & stay warm! All Steamed Up, Inc.

Plus on the cap it has Pat Pending and Chicago address which would make it one of earliest produced Patent applied 1916 approved 1920... Probably over 100 years of service.. amazingOne way to get familiar something you know nothing about is to ask a really smart person a really stupid question0

I get all my traps and replacement capsules and TRVs from Tunstall right here in Chicopee Mass. High quality, Made in America, very fair prices. Woody is great to deal with - very knowledgeable. Mad Dog.1

I also have a leaking Hoffman #8 Turn Valve(?). I assume that is a steam trap? It is being used as a crossover trap. I checked on the Grainger website and they say I need a 3494. https://www.grainger.com/category/brand/BARNES+%26+JONES?internalSearchTerm=&refineSearchString=Hoffman+%238
This trap/valve is in a very difficult spot and getting the cap off is going to be difficult. Is there any way to tell from the outside whether the seat is integrated or not? I'm sure that this is not in stock locally so before I damage the valve I would like to know what parts to order.

"Return Valve". Yes, it's a fancy name for a steam trap.
Depending on the steam main length and diameter, it may be better to replace that #8 with a Big Mouth Crossover Trap.

Thanks, by chance do you have a part number for that Big Mouth Crosover Trap?

Hello @Petemcl,
The Big Mouth may have a bigger diameter than what you have there. Make sure it will fit.
