Different pipe dopes for different fluids, gases, etc. ???

Hi all,

I have a generator that runs on propane. I have to check the primary & secondary pressures, and to do that I have to remove the plugs from the regulators. When I reinstall them, should I use yellow Teflon tape, pipe dope, or both ??? Do I need a pipe dope that says it's specifically made for use with propane, or will any pipe dope do ??? I have some Blue Monster stay-soft with Teflon dope, but nowhere on the can does it say what it is approved for. Their HD dope with Teflon says that it is OK for oil, but not propane--And it's not stay soft which might cause problems when I need to check pressures the next time. What dope do I need for use with propane ???

This will open up a whole can of worms. For propane the dope or teflon has to be listed for propane
