Better alternatives to Nest

I have a rental unit in my house and thought a smart thermostat would be a good option since I don’t have to put an intimidating lock box around the thermostat. I can get a Wi-Fi thermostat at substantial savings from National Grid LI NY. I have a gas fired boiler with hydronic heating two zones, one for the rental unit. Are there better alternatives to a Nest? What does the community think?

    Prity much everything is better than NEST!

    Honeywell makes controls that you can set high / low limits and are WiFi
