steam radiator help in Brattleboro

hi i just bought a home in brattleboro with oil heated steam radiators. I come from phoenix AZ and ive never seen a radiator before. Several are not heating up, and id prefer not to use You Tube as the vids all warn that you'll have a geyser if you do it wrong. There are no contractors listed within 30 miles. Anyone know someone close who can do this simple fix i hope and give me a primer on a radiator system? thx

In the meantime, order up a copy of "We Got Steam Heat" from the store here, or from Amazon, and start to learn about your system. It's written with the homeowner in mind, and will help a lot.

Steam heat is not difficult -- in most cases there are simple things which can be done. Sometimes we here on The Wall can help a lot by remote control, as it were -- some of the best in the business are here.

Can you possibly post a picture of one of your radiators? That will help us figure out what type of steam system you have (there are two basic kinds -- one pipe and two pipe).
