Main vent.

My plumber used this main vent to replace one that was seized on and stuck open. He did a new tap which looks good and is working but the vent looks like crap. Despite it working well, should I replace the main vent with a better quality one now or wait for this one to fail? I know this thing will rust on pretty quick…

It’s a copy of the Maid O Mist #1 which I use myself and is a nice vent at a great price. Try supplyhouse.comNJ Steam Homeowner. See my sight glass boiler videos: https://bit.ly/3sZW1el2

The vent is in a wall I had to rip out in order to access it. I don’t want to cover it up with a crappy vent in there. I might make an access grill, does that vent use a crappy plastic float that will fail in a year?0

Not in my experience it won't.
You could also choose a Gorton which everyone has been complaining about recently, but is about identical to the MoM #1, or you could use a Big Mouth that everyone has been complaining about for the last year or two, or you could use a Gorton #2 that costs 5x the MoM price, but does have more venting capacity.
Regardless, don't cover up your main vents.NJ Steam Homeowner. See my sight glass boiler videos: https://bit.ly/3sZW1el0 -
