My boiler control would not go past the purge stage and the inducer motor sounded like gurgling when it was running.
Pulled condensate drain tube from inducer housing and water drained out. Removed inducer motor and housing was full of water and what looks like aluminum oxide sludge.
I ended up removing about a cat food tin volume of sludge from this housing.
Pulled condensate drain tube from bottom of boiler and nothing came out until after I removed the plastic barb and poked around up in there. Lots of aluminum oxide came out with the water.
I’m going to replace all of the old condensate drain tubing and make sure it has good slope. The previous install seemed a little sloppy. Considering trying to flush or brush out the remaining sludge from the bottom of the boiler casting before reassembly.
Is this indicative of a more serious problem in the boiler or heat exchanger?

Difficult to know what is going on with that but it doesn't look good0

It’s the nature of aluminum block boilers. They require more frequent maintenance and cleaning than stainless steel fire tube boilers.Bob Boan
You can choose to do what you want, but you cannot choose the consequences.0
