Mystery Valve

Have yet to locate any literature on this valve. It is on the large running end of that riser. These are the only pictures my tech could produce. Homeowner stated radiators started getting hot until he went down and "messed" with this valve. Some type of flow control but only a guess. My suspicion is what ever was inside that valve isn't there anymore.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

I thought we answered this on the other forum. If it wasn't you it was your tech. Are you in NC?
"Its a straight pattern weighted lift check.
Commonly called a flow control valve.
The little flag there can be spun outward to allow for gravity flow should a pump fail.
Typically not needed if there is only one pump for the system.
Its typical function is to prevent off cycle flow on system with multiple pump circuits."

Now let's talk about that circulator. What is that?0

It's called a flow valve , or flow check . It prevents heat from rising up into the system when the circulator is off .

@sasman
Just take it out and replace it with a new flow check.
Just for your own information if you don't have DHW off the boiler and only have 1 zone you don't even need the thing
