Weird smell from in floor heat

Hi there. I have in floor heat, and when it turns on there is a weird smell that only I can smell.   It took forever for me to realize it was the heating. I replaced a lot of things (toilet, tiling) and it went away all summer. Now first day the heat is on, the smell is back, and only in the rooms w the in floor heating.  System was changed a month ago. Last year it was a boiler and a hot water tank, and there was some pex. Now it is all one on demand gas fired boiler for both heat and hot water. In floor heat is red plastic pipe. pex section was replaced.

    What is the temperature of the floor loops when the system is heating? Maybe it's higher than previously & is causing more outgassinging from the floor coverings.

    @Wghiggins

    Is this smell new with the new boiler or did you have it with the old boiler as well??

    Is their any antifreeze or glycol in the boiler system??

    Hey Wghiggins did you ever figure out the smell? I just moved into a house with hydronic radiant floor heating and with the same water heater boiler as you. I notice a really weird smell in the house as well once the heating kicks on. Some people can smell it but others can’t. It really bothers me. Curious to know if you figured out the cause.

    Hello,

    Did you find out the cause of the smell?? I'm having the same problem.

    @472MacNab I have the same problem just as Wghiggins described. Same water heater too. I messaged him privately but no response, he may not use this forum anymore.

    I did realize the water temp to the floor was too high 145-150F as the mixing valve was closed. I opened it a bit to bring the temp down to around 105F, that definitely helped but didn’t get the smell completely gone just better than it was.

    Better but not great. I’m considering switching to forced air heating with ducts.
