Beckett oil to gas conversion

Hello,

I want to convert from oil to gas. I have a Williamson OSB-3 steam boiler with a Beckett burner. I stumbled upon the Beckett cg4 gas conversion burner, but unfortunately my boiler is not on the "approved appliance list" for the cg4

Am I out of luck for my particular boiler?

Nope. Use a Carlin EZ-Gas. Where are you located?

There are plenty of Steam Guys up that way. Try @JohnNY or @EzzyT .

Do you have the proper tools?
    Do you have a manometer?
Do you have a combustion analyzer?
Is the meter large enough and is the piping up to code?
Do you know what else needs to be done besides the burner?
If the answers to these questions are an astounding "YES!" then go get 'em.

I'll add one more to @HVACNUT 's list. Most jurisdictions require that a licensed plumber or gas fitter certify that the gas piping is correct and tested. Are you qualified to do that?

I work in the field, but will still consider hiring out. I'm still learning steam boilers.

Confirm that the gas meter can handle the additional gas load if not then you’ll need a meter upgrade but also might need a gas service upgrade.
Draft regulator will need to be replaced with a dual action one, a back draft safety switch installed and wired into the burner.
A chimney liner might need to be installed if there isn’t already one.
Replace the combustion chamber refractory along with brushing and clean the combustion chamber and flue passage ways.

In my State in order to do a gas conversion I am required to have a gas conversion burner license. It is the highest in the Master gasfitter license. It grants us the authority to legally modified an existing product. It requires a modification of some appliances for proper overtire draft as well as flue draft. It also takes into account the reduction sizing of the capacity of the firebox combustion chamber. We are taught not all appliances can be converted. Of course those appliance that the mfg. builds for both fuels makes the job a no brainer. Just follow their requirements. Having this training you can design your own heating unit properly. FYI. In some cases a 25-35% reduction in heat capacity is realized. If the old was oversized it could almost always meet the proper existing net heat load.

Call Beckett, the Williamson water boilers are approved. Same block for both
