I got distracted today on a college tour.
This is a 72,000 sq foot Leed gold building with 72 geo wells. They claim that the gas backup boilers only need to fire on the 10 coldest days of the year. This is in one of the coldest areas in zone 7

Are the pumps Armstrong Dual Arms?

    Yes, they are.
I wish I took more pictures, we were touring new engineering school the kids were looking at and convinced the tour guide that we needed to see the mech room.

I am surprised that they let you into a working mechanical room. Usually, they are off limits to the public but that is where I feel most at ease.

Many years ago my wife and I were on a cruise and I was able to make my way into the boiler/engine room. Geeze, when I got caught there you would have thought that I broken into 'Fort Knox"

I think they are. Boilers are WM Cast Iron 88's They were not concerned with efficiency as they are really just for a few cold days and to backup the GEO.

I admire the guy that has to maintain that equipment.
    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

I'm sure there are more than one

I admire the guy that has to maintain that equipment.

And they probably all have color-coded hard hats to match the piping.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

With so many threads lately with pics of absolute massacres, it's nice to see some showing craftsmanship and pride.
