We no longer want to use our wood stove to burn wood. Can it be turned into a steam?

Say what? Is it that you want your wood stove to become a steam boiler? Or do you want your wood stove to be heated by steam instead of burning wood?

In principle, either one would be possible. In practice... no.

    Hello Ms. Martin,

No, you cannot safely use your wood stove to make steam heat for your home.

You could use a coal stoker boiler to make steam heat for your home and
hot water much more economically than using cordwood or wood pellets.

@SueMartin without additional info, its hard for anyone to respond to you other than what is posted by many experience forum members. But I do agree with high degree of confidence, with some of the most experience forum members. If you are thinking about converting your wood stove to be a steam heating system for you house etc, (probably it can be done) but not practical as Br. @Jamie Hall mentioned above.

Such modifications may avoid some insurance benefits and would not meet building codes, since wood stoves must be used to meet its own specifications (or you may be faced with unknown hazardous conditions by incorrectly using a wood stove and not meeting local building codes.

If you are considering such as putting a pot on the top of the wood stove to generate steam for humidity, or Finnish sauna or Scandinavian sauna, it may be very possible to use a wood stove to do so. Regardless - things like this most likely have to meet local building codes.
    1) how powerful is your wood stove ( how many SQ feet is it designed to heat?
    2) How old is your wood stove?
3)make and model of your wood stove?
    4) If possible if you could include the answers to questions by member in the forum in this discussion?
    Thank you!
** You can do a internet search for wood-burning boiler systems to understand what is involved with running a professionally designed and certified wood boiler.
    Thank you!
