Condensate Neutralizer Refill Material?

Heating Pros, I have a condensate neutralizer hooked up to my boiler system that I installed about 2 years ago. While I didn't take the pH level of the drain water then, I just did today and it came to 3.6, so I'm guessing it's time to replace the neutralizer material. I know I can get a $25+ bag of stone from a plumbing supply place, but as far as I can tell it's just crushed limestone... Does anyone know if I can get a 50lb bag of crushed "something" that will work as a neutralizer for cheaper? I have plenty of room to store it in my basement.. .just figured it might be cheaper? (if it works as well)
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jay

Limestone is great. But you will need to clean it regularly. Or just use calefactio products.Gennady Tsakh

Has to be limestone -- or a chemically equivalent material (Calcium Carbonate). It may be cheaper at Home Depot... but you may have to crush it to make fine enough granules.Br. Jamie, osb

I use Axiom condensate neutralizers. You need to monitor the ph on a yearly basis. Limestone chips gradually gets a coating on it that inhibits its effectiveness when in use.0 -
It probably will be a lot cheaper from a supply house or someone else that can order it through their regular distribution since shipping a 25# bag by itself is not going to be inexpensive.0

Thank you all for weighing in.. Guess there's not an easy away around purpose made neutralizers. All of the ones mentioned above seem to hover in the $25 range for a little less than 3 lbs, so around $8 per pound.
For anyone interested, I found this one:

12.5 lbs for $65 (a little over $5/lb) with free shipping. Still would love to find a cheap big bag I could use over years to come, but for now, this will due I guess!
Thanks,
Jay

I use Axiom too, it keeps pH at around 6.0

I suppose the other option is to just get a bag of limestone chips and replace it every year.0

I've used crushed oyster shells from the feed store. very inexpensive and about the right size. I rinsed them first to remove the dust.Miss Hall's School service mechanic, greenhouse manager, teacher and dog walker0

It's been a while but I had layers and seeing as how calcium carbonate is calcium carbonate I figured why not.HomerJSmith said:"crushed oyster shells", I never thought of that. I buy it by the bag full, 50#, for my poultry(Pacific Pearl). I think I will try it next time.

I purchase 40 pound bags of Axiom media at a time from supplyhouse.com. Since we go through a decent amount of it every year with all the high efficient equipment we service.

Will calcium sulfate dihydrate (Sheetrock) reduce acidity of condensate?
