Crazy idea to save electricity - Heat Pump

I have this crazy idea:
Install an ICM102 delay timer at the Heat Strip Relay to delay aux heat from coming on for 5 minutes.

This way, defrost cycles will not waste electricity on the aux heat for the first 5 minutes.
Normal use of aux heat will also be delayed for 5 minutes.

Is this a bad idea?

The heaters are coming on for a reason. During defrost that unit is now an A/C, the heaters prevent cold drafts.

I think that's a pretty good idea, although I wouldn't suggest trying it on your own. As pecmsg said, during defrost, that unit is now an A/C. The heaters prevent cold drafts. It would be best if you talked to a specialist about that. I'm sure they could offer an opinion that could help. I can recommend the https://gordonpowers.com.au/suburb/electrician-merrylands/ team since they always provide the best value for your money. They're also very friendly, so I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving you some quick advice on an issue so interesting as yours!

I suppose it's ok if you don't mind the effects of it.
If it ends up annoying then just do away with it.

I assume this is your own system?
