"A" is a self check code when the control is powered up.

Phoned a second plumbing company to help me, the code on the boiler read 9 b 26 - the aquastat, LCW and 3.5 was checked and still the boiler would not fire up.

The manual says it's an external limit code.

Do you have good flow through the boiler? Not air bound? Circulator i working?

yes circulation is good, I've had my boiler for years. I woke up this morning and it was off, so turned the power off and then reset it. however, prior to this the PSI was at zero, so I filled it to between 15-20. The code 9 b 26 appeared then I repeated to turn off the boiler and then reset. It started to go, temp was increasing ...I last checked it was at 104...then I came back downstairs and it was off again and this time it won't start up. Its going to be -52 tonight so I'm in a bit of a panic mode

Try removing the LWCO probe and cleaning it. You'll have to isolate and partially drain the boiler. Make sure all of the air is purged when it's refilled.
