A little background info. In the past, we had built a house and the heating contractor recommended a low mass boiler for our hydro air system. We found out later that his installer had never piped one before. It led to lots of literally sleepless nights and a long road to getting it to work as it should.

So when we bought an 18th century house with one pipe steam, I was determined to get the best heating guy I could. I read Dan’s book to try to educate myself a little and also read many of the horror stories on the Strictly Steam page.

I came here to the Wall and asked for a recommendation and was told by several people to go with Charles Garrity from W Mass. He installed a new boiler and basically expanded our steam system to heat a wing on the house that was never really heated to any great degree, adding 5 radiators that matched the existing ones and reconfiguring the few that were there.

We now have so much usable space and Charles did a great job. When we had a couple minor issues, he was very quick to remedy them.

We now have a very comfortable quiet house. There is nothing like the feeling of stepping into a room with one of those big cast iron radiators pumping out the heat.

So thanks for the advice, and add me to the list of people who will recommend Charles.
