Radiators, no unions, covers with humidifiers

Just wanted to share these beauties. A few things you don't get to see to often.
First, the installer must have piped from radiator back to the boiler. Whats puzzling to me is I can find unions anywhere. Still some asbestos coving what pipes are exposed in the basement so can't see a lot of the piping.
The covers have these pans on top to hold water and give off humidity. Always a nice upgrade for a radiator.
And last, I like how the builder reinforced the floor where radiators needed to be. Usually the house is sagging and the feet have worn holes through the wood.

I wonder if the installer said to his helper "The guy who has to change out these radiators is going to hate me"?

    Nice lookin' Boiler Porn!
Radiation is a subset category. LOL

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Looks like a union to me on the valve.

Both me and my sawzall took a really close look. We couldn't find a union.
There has to be one somewhere and before the end of this job I'll know where.

Here's a photo of some similar radiators I'm waiting to use. Those humidifier boxes may cover a nice design. These radiators came from a New Jersey home east of Philadelphia. The house across the street had them too. Both were turn of the century working class homes. I'm curious why the builder used such nice radiators. I went to New Jersey from Chicago to buy them because I like them so much.

I agree that the lack of a coupling is a bummer if the need to be moved! Maybe the installer was trying to save some money. Are they hot water?

    Those are the same radiators.
I was instructed to save the radiator. I really hope they decide to keep it.
John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert were born in the house across the street in this neighborhood. That house had the same radiators but not the same covers.

It’s more likely that they are left/right threads.
