Weil McClain skim piping - permanent install?

Question for you experts- I was thinking about permanently connecting some piping to the 1 1/2” tap for skimming on the side of the boiler, is it common to have a permanent take off to skim, or just skim during annual cleaning out and maintenance??
This boiler is about 15 years and I recently moved in and do the home maintrence , not. It sure when / if ever really cleaned out . Thanks.

I don’t know how common it is, but I leave mine on with a valve. Makes it easy to skim if necessary (not very often) and very easy to add water treatment (somewhat more often)

In your own house I would want it permanent it just costs you a valve. Good Idea to plug the valve when not skimming. Accidents happen0
