The pump coupler on my Beckett AFG burner caught on fire today . Any ideas what might have caused this ? It melted the CAD eye as well .

Exhaust fan in the room? Power vent? Direct vent?

Seen them melt when pulling air down the chimney

Back pressure. Plugged heat exchanger, blocked chimney, and/or negative room pressure pulling products of combustion backwards thru the burner.
Also incorrect burner set up, and on furnaces, cracked heat exchanger, clogged filter with an open return.
Figure it out before you fire it back up.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

All of the above are the usual possibilities.  The only time I ever saw this happen the heat exchanger was plugged with soot and the homeowners kept resetting the burner.

You have major problems. The burner is not safe to operate until the cause is identified and corrected. Call a pro who is familiar with oil heating systems.

It is a furnace if so did the air handler door fall off or did you change the filter? If it runs without the door it will pull negative pressure and suck the flame out the burner.  Also everything else everyone has said.
