Pipe type for steam piping

So I need to redo some of the below the waterline piping on my boiler.  I recently developed a rust hole that made a big leak.  The pipes are in terrible condition and need to be redone.  I usually get my stuff from supplyhouse because they have all the stuff.

Anyway I'm curious if this bluefin (imported sch40) stuff is ok for use below the waterline.

If not, what should I get?

Thanks!

It has been good practice to use cast fitting for any repairs in the future .But what you have works

I can buy whatever makes the most sense.  The cast stuff is a bit more expensive but if it's right I'll get it.

Honestly the cast fittings aren't all rusted out, just the horizontal piping.  Do most guys replace everything for ease of install and PIA factor.  Or is it reasonable just to reuse the existing elbows and Ts.    ps that peice of galvenized is a stop gap

You can reuse the cast iron fittings as long as they are in good condition and the threads are clean. I used to use a "copper cleaning brush" with the handle cut off and the twisted wire end stuck in a drill to clean the threads. The piping below the water line should be Xtra heavy or schedule 80 as it now called if it is available. I do not think that the big box stores have any in stock.

You can use the malleable iron fittings if that is all you can buy. Since I was in the commercial/industrial steam business all fittings below the water line were cast iron and the piping was sch 80. my2 cents

The pros seem to replace anything that’s going to cost more effort than the value it gives, which makes cents.

As a homeowner who’s looking for any excuse to mess with my stuff, I reuse anything that still looks good.
