how long would a stainless indirect hwh last on long island N.Y. Soft water,low clor count 20 yrs old now ?

    Some folks on here will have local experience. 20 years is a pretty good run for any indirect in any area.

    You might want to think about stone lined. Really depends on water condition.

    Hi, I agree with @Zman that 20 years isn't bad. If you can change anodes as needed, a glass lined tank can last a very long time as long as pressure is controlled. I've gotten fifty years from glass lined tanks.

    I would think glass lined indirect water heaters would have a anode rod.
    SS indirect water heaters can be destroyed by high clordies plus there are different grades of stainless steel.
    Stone lined indirect water heare from Vaugh is a good unit. Vaughn also builds a plastic indirect water heater called their Featherweight.

    Both of my original Buderus tanks went over 20 years ... one made it to 25. The new thermoglass are about 1/2 the weight and I was reading about failures -- replaced both w/ stainless. No anode in B stainless tank .. yes in the thermoglass
