Adjustable Orifices Inside Steam System Radiator Valves

An orifice is nothing more than a little hole that you put in the way of the steam. It usually looks like a washer, and you'll find it either in the supply valve or the return elbow of each radiator. The Dead Men who sized the orifices figured out how to match them to the size of the radiators.

How many Willie's have we run into on apartment houses. Although the really sad thing is the contractors they send out knowing everything about steam know as much as Willie. Why read a book when you can get through life on people's ignorance, and the horrible thing is the youngsters are being trained by these brainiacs. No wonder we get a bad name.

Is there a valve similar to the model K made today?
I can't even find a picture of one.

The Hoffman No. 7 valve had a slightly different approach to the same end -- but made it much harder for the Willies, as to adjust it you had to take it pretty well apart. Can't find that one made any more, either.
