Help restoring Hoffman System

Happy New Year everyone!
Well it's been almost a year since I was last on The Wall.
- I have isolated where the hammering is coming from - a Trane Concealed Heat convection unit. The way the unit was installed (in 1929) requires me to open the wall to check the slope. Not thrilled about tearing into our dining room wallpaper, my wife is even less so.
- I can't tell for certain if the system is loosing water or if water is delayed getting back to the boiler.
- I spoke with a pipe fitter about next steps and we plan to open the return lines near the boiler and check for sludge.
- once I find out more, I'll pass along.
- all the best in 2022!0 -

The water should be simple -- note the level accurately when the boiler is cold some day. A srping clothespin works well, but there are other was. Then come back after the boiler has run for a while, or throgh a few cycles, and cooled down again. If the water level has dropped, you're losing water.Br. Jamie, osb
