Confused about verivalves and purpose...

Traditional water heaters on wall. Electric thermostat set to 74. All knobs on the heaters themselves are open. All heating units work, but... some randomly shut off after a few hours while others stay on. First question is what position should the verivalves be set to? Open or closed? Two, can these even be the culprit for units not staying on that can in fact reach can high heat... Some rooms are freezing as a result of these shutoffs despite others being very hot...

Can you post pictures? It sounds like you have steam radiators with a single t-stat. If so, you might try closing the valves closest to the t-stat and opening the ones farthest away."If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough"
