annual steam system start up maintenance

What annual maintenance do I have to do to our steam heating system before we turn it on during the fall and winter? I need a knowledgeable heating person in Westchester County, NY, near zip 10706 to come service it and want to know if they will do what is necessary. Open to recommendations and suggestions.

Check "Find a Contactor" for folks near you -- I think there are several who serve Westchester County.
It's not really a bid deal, though, if you get someone who knows what they are doing. Clean the boiler fire side. Check and adjust the burner (oil may need a new nozzle and filter). Check that all the safeties operate properly. If you have known problems with bad traps or vents, replace them. If you have known leaks, fix those.Br. Jamie, osb

Thanks Jamie. All works well without a tune up but we were advised to flush the system annual with Mex to keep it clean. Not sure if that is necessary.0

I would only flush it like that if it gets dirty. How does the water in your sight glass look? All Steamed Up, Inc.
