Did these brand new shutoff valves get ruined?

I had a helper install new spuds for a couple of new valves but he did not use a spud wrench and just used a pipe wrench. There is some tearing up of the spud.
Do you think I should get new valves and reinstall with new spuds (using the proper tool this time) ?

Take a good close look at the valve's union face and see if you can figure out what really is the sealing face. It may be that it is the undamaged inner, rounded area and not the outer, chewed up right. If so you got lucky...Br. Jamie, osb

Did he know what a spud tool was?
Was he ever shown how it works?0 -
I think you got lucky. The tapered face is the sealing surface and if it's still good you should be able to make a tight seal. Show him/her a spud wrench for future reference.Miss Hall's School service mechanic, greenhouse manager, teacher and dog walker0

I think your ok. I would certainly try it that way. I have seen many done that way. Not right but they were ok0
