I'm reading Stephen Kings book on writing. He claims the best writers are usually those that read a lot and also a wide variety of books.
We have heard the saying you are what you eat, I think the same could apply to writing and reading.Bob "hot rod" Rohr

@Steve Minnich I am in the same boat. I have been reading books by Tom Wolf about Victor the assassin. He is such a good writerRay Wohlfarth

I will say the second 1/2 of the book has some great examples and advice for writing in general, regardless of the topics. Sentence structure, paragraphs use of adverbs, etc. I suppose I learned some of that in school. I just try and pick up some tips that might apply to my writing, certainly not trying to reach that level or volume of writing.RayWohlfarth said:@hot_rod I was thinking of taking that class. Stephen King's book is terrific. I also learned a lot from Elmore Leonard, both from reading all his books, and from this advice: https://www.liferichpublishing.com/AuthorResources/General/Elmore-Leonards-Ten-Rules-Of-Writing.aspxRetired and loving it.0

@hot_rod Thanks for the review A fellow writer is giving me his copy to read. I enrolled in a new summer course in writing. The teacher is supposed to be pretty good. Always looking to get better.
@Erin Holohan Haskell My friend is going to let me read his copy. Thanks tho. Hey just just curious, Am I supposed to bow, curtsey or kiss your pinky ring when we see each other in public?
@DanHolohan I will try that book. Thanks
Have a great holiday weekend everyoneRay Wohlfarth

I had a couple writing classes in college a long time ago. I’m really not sure if I know what I’m doing? I try to write as if I’m talking to someone.Steve Minnich0

@Steve Minnich Thats a good way of writing. I like taking classes at the community college to keep working the left side of the brainRay Wohlfarth

@DanHolohan - I don't think I've ever read an Elmore Leonard book so I looked into him. Raylan Givens and Fire in the Hole lead to the TV series Justified. I loved that show. Impressive list of screenplays too. I'll add him to the list. Thank you.Steve Minnich0

@RayWohlfarth - I'd love to go back to school again. I went back in the early 90's and took 10-12 classes. It's the whole time and energy thing now.Steve Minnich0

Between the New Yorker and the weekend NY Times, I have no time to read books. That will have to wait for retirement.
I don't have an easy chair yet. Can someone recommend a recliner? My grandfather had one that vibrated.8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

I could come up with a hydronic easy chair design for you. Maybe heated and cooled, something that could be used in cooling mode at Burning Man for exampleBetween the New Yorker and the weekend NY Times, I have no time to read books. That will have to wait for retirement.

@RayWohlfarth That was almost 30 years ago. No way I’d do that now with my current work load.Steve Minnich0

Putting in the work.
Speaking of books, has anyone read Hard City by Clark Howard? I’m halfway through it. It’s everything I hoped Catcher in the Rye would be.Steve Minnich0
