All Steamed Up, Inc. Installs a Weil-McLain 480 Steam Boiler With a Carlin Commercial Gas Burner

We have a slightly different take on what LWCOs to use and the mounting of the pressure controls on a Weil-McLain 480 steam boiler as seen and discussed in the video below.

Steamhead figured out the best thing for this customer was to completely separate the two co-joined steam zones that had been yoked together with a 6" header. It would have been better if we could have eliminated that header in its entirety, but a major part of it had been built into the firewall.

It is a good bet that that 6" by 1-1/4" cast iron reducing 90 is one of the last on earth.

We discovered that some of the 3" gate valves on the various mains had been 2/3 closed. We supposed this was in an effort to "balance" the system. One valve could be removed and discarded, but not before we practiced on it to find the best way to open the remaining entombed valve. Even so, it was a three hour struggle with two men taking turns to get it completely open. Too much force breaking that valve and its removal would have become necessary, precipitating a partial demolition of the firewall, and other ensuing hilarity .
