Pipe Dope or Teflon Tape

I'm adding a 0-3 psi gauge and skim port to my boiler and noticed all the original threaded pipe was installed with pipe dope. Can I use teflon tape on my new connections or is pipe dope recommended. I have a bottle of LACO Slic-tite paste with PTFE I could use. On job sites I visit, all the new threaded plumbing is done with a dark grey dope.
Thanks

For the gauge, I would use tape. for the skim port, probably either will work but dope is maybe the best bet.0
