Bouncing the coils?

I had a oil company tech come in once, and he bounced the coils to get me more hot water. Had somethi g to do with turning hot water on and off at one of the faucets. Anyone here ever hear of this, and can I do it myself?

Drop the pressure on the boiler.
Close the cold to the coil.
Open tub spout full hot.
Percolate the boiler and coil.
Quickly open and close the cold valve to bounce.
Drain down boiler to remove deposits.
Way back, before thermostatic mixing valves were common, we would pipe the cold with a globe between coil inlet and the mix tee with it's own globe.
Boiler drain on the cold side and you could easily back flush the coil.0
