Hello,
About 11 months ago, I had a installer contractor put in a gas fired steam boiler. I had a number of issues, equalizer was wrong, no hartford loop, drain valves, etc. I had wet steam in my boiler flooding the system, and banging in my pipes and short cycling. They had to repipe the whole thing again according to manufacturers specification as I demanded, otherwise they would need to pay for another plumber to fix the work that they did. Fortunately, I read Dan Holihan's book, "The lost art of steam heating" way before hand and learned quite a bit. It was scary when I asked the plumber, "shouldn't the main cut in pressure be less than 5 psi?". He says, "No, that's factory set". I should have thrown him out of the house at that point.
Fast forward to today, I was fortunate to find an amazing plumber, Vincent who has expert knowledge in the craft of steam heating and plumbing: A.S.A.P. Plumbing and Heating in New York. Vincent not only quickly figured out my issues with my boiler by draining and skimming but also fixed other issues with replacing my current main vent (Gorton #1) on my riser and replacing the air vent in my kitchen radiator (Hoffman #40). Everything is working perfectly and I owe it all to Vincent from A.S.A.P Plumbing. If you need a reliable plumber in the NY area, I would highly recommend, (718) 831-1318.
Thanks,
