Removing a pipe that in the way

in Pipe Deterioration
I bought a house and wanted to remodel Kitchen.The problem was the pipie the heated upstairs bathroom was 5 feet from the wall and next to a stove which we got rid of. I removed the pipe and capped it.Is this alright to do. boiler and heat work like a charm,so I am thinking it was fine. the pipe was a vertical pipe so I didn't see any issues.

    A lot more info is needed. Is the system steam or hot water? Some pics would help.
