What is the benefit of having a wall hung boiler that is piped to a storage tank vs one that does it internal in the boiler itself

I assume you mean a combi vs an indirect? You can generally size the boiler to the heat loss with an indirect. A combi needs a larger input to handle instantaneous DHW.

Wall hung is less expensive, simpler (less parts to break) and easier to service vs. combi.

Wall hung boilers usually heat domestic water via indirect water heater (IE tank with coil inside).
I think the other option you are thinking of is a combi boiler?

With the indirect, you can size the boiler to the heating load and use the storage buffer to get you through periods of higher DHW usage.
