Weld 8” leaking joint?
Timco
Member Posts: 3,040
Piped together a 800k steamer 2 years ago. Now there’s a pretty good leak at a 8” threaded joint. Is there any chance I can just weld this joint? Really can’t unthread it.
Just a guy running some pipes.

What sort of pressure is this getting up to for it to leak?—NBC0

Not without a grinder and a whole lot of patience...Jamie Hall said:I couldn't -- but I'll bet you can. Just remember that if you do, it surely isn't going to come apart again...

I'd weld it. Be sure the fitting is steel and not cast. You can tell by the sparks that come from grinding a bit of it. Steel makes big sparks and iron makes small sparks.Serving Northern Maine HVAC & Controls. I burn wood, it smells good!0
