Two year old New Yorker cl residential steam boiler producing random hot water last few days. Will not ignite for hot water nor will thermostat make boiler come on then when you check hours later it has cycled and made hot water then nothing again randomly. 124 volts to lwco and the same to pressuretrol didn't register anything to burner control. Put everything back together then tapped side of pressuretrol with screw driver and instantly boiler fired up ?? Could 2 year old pressuretrol go bad ? Thanks

Yes. But the first thing I'd do is take out the pigtail and clean it out and check the opening in the bottom of the pressuretrol... then start worrying about the pressuretrol.

This is good advice. We have several steam boilers under contract. After installing a new boiler several years ago, we had a similar problem after 3 years of operation. The pigtail was blocked with sludge. We added unions to some of our pressure control pigtails to make cleaning easier so we don't have to disconnect the wiring every year during maintenance

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Thanks so much for replies sorry it took a while to reply . In the end our steam boiler pressuretrol was set as close to .5 as they could get with screw adjuster. Turns out after a year and a half the screw had turned out just enough to release enough pressure from spring but not unscrew that it didn't spring back after boiler came up to pressure.was a great 90 dollar education to put less than a degree turn in pressetrol screw and then it was click click click . Again great website
