Steam oil to gas replacement started

Old boiler was a Utica OW 3 section installed in 1983, near boiler piping was mostly copper, header was weird at best. The first three take offs were radiator runouts, then it went up into the girdling main. What I did was separate the girdling main from that part of the header and turned it into the second main, it was as pitched towards the boiler so I went in at the far end.
I ran my header straight back instead of off to the side due to space constraints.

How much do you think you save reducing the boiler risers @Dave0176? Nice as always btw.0

Doesn’t have to do with savings, but steam exit velocity. The two 2-1/2” risers provide 10.86 velocity. I could run the full 3” and velocity drops to 7.03, but I’d assume there’s a point where it’s too slow?? Anyway your only saving about a C note.Danny Scully said:How much do you think you save reducing the boiler risers @Dave0176? Nice as always btw.

What made you decide to go with the knock-down version?New England SteamWorks

Thanks @New England SteamWorks , and no it was a packaged boiler, I don’t buy knockdowns, they come in all those boxes and nothing is installed. When I get to the job if it’s tight I’ll just break em down usually only takes me 10-15 mins, makes it a ton easier to bring just the block in.New England SteamWorks said:That is getting creative, -and very sweet!

A big thank you to @Dave0176 for all his hard work and the great job him and his team did. Watching the entire process from beginning to end made me truly appreciate the thought and planning that goes into restoring a steam system to its former glory. This is a work of art and for the first time in years, I am actually excited to turn on my heat!2

Nothing better than a happy homeowner!!!
I like the creative way of taking the header down the middle. I don't think i would ever have thought of that, but may 'steal' that someday if i need to pull a rabbit out of a hat.gwgillplumbingandheating.com
